Welcome to Washington Closure Hanford
The project team is responsible for safely cleaning up and taking down hundreds of excess facilities, cleaning up waste sites and burial grounds and placing deactivated plutonium production reactors in interim safe storage.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 2013 and cost $2.2 billion. In that time, we will decontaminate and remove 486 facilities, close or remediate 370 waste sites, cocoon four reactors, and dispose of about four million tons of contaminated material.
