Washington Closure Hanford - Procurement

New Technology Opportunities - Information Guide

This guide provides information to companies desiring to bring improved technology to the
U.S. Department of Energy's Hanford Site
, through the site's River Corridor Closure Contractor, Washington Closure Hanford, LLC (WCH). This guide is written for companies unfamiliar with working on the Hanford Site and that have commercially available technologies or services. Throughout this guide, the term "technologies" includes all technologies, cleanup solutions, products, and/or services.

The River Corridor Closure Project is always interested in cleanup solutions that are better, safer and cheaper than methods currently used to resolve specific site problems. The highest priority technology needs are listed on the Technology Needs web page.

The ER Project has established the Technology Application program to aquire information on commercially available technologies, and to support their application on site.

Suggested Steps for Interested Parties

Take the following actions if:

  • you are interested in learning more about environmental restoration on the
    Hanford Site
  • you have a technology or service you believe may be an improvement to the site.
  1. Read this guide. If, after reading the guide, you believe you have a technology or service that would be an improvement to the Hanford Site cleanup mission, meets a high priority need, and you wish to pursue work for WCH at the Hanford Site, continue with step 2.
  2. Acquire appropriate information identified in this guide. This guide provides a number of links useful to prospective technology providers who want to learn how to work with WCH and understand current planning and priorities of Hanford Site cleanup.
  3. Assess technology benefit against project planning and baselines. With the Hanford cleanup strategies and priority technology needs in hand (Steps 1 and 2), the potential technology provider should determine the value of the technology to the Hanford cleanup mission. If possible, preliminary estimates should be prepared to determine the cost/performance enhancements over existing project baseline activities (complete life-cycle). Other enhancements in terms of safety, waste minimization or recycling opportunities should be included in this assessment.
  4. Contact the Technology Application program. The Technology Application program is designed to maximize the benefit of commercially available technologies and innovative approaches. The Technology Application program will use the information assembled in Step 3 to match potential technology solutions to project needs. If a match exists, the Technology Application program will seek project sponsorship that may lead to a demonstration or deployment of the technology.
  5. Acquire updated Procurement Planning List from WCH and arrange for regular updates to be sent to you directly. The Procurement Planning list is a summary of planned and open solicitations from WCH.
  6. Respond to an announced solicitation. If you identify an immediate possibility for your technology, contact the WCH person listed in the solicitation.
  7. Consider a partnership with a local company. Companies that have not previously worked on the Hanford Site are encouraged to form a partnership with a locally based company that is familiar with Hanford-related activities and performing work at the site. For more information on local companies, contact the Tri-City Industrial Development Council.
